Kaw Tha Blay Learning Centre was founded in 2005. It is available for students who are high school graduates from Karen State, under the Karen Education Department system, Refugee Camps along the border in Thailand, Migrant High Schools, Thai Schools and Burma Education System High Schools. It also involves high school graduates from other ethnic areas in Burma, who want to study for two years after completing grade ten.
The four main classes at Kaw Tha Blay are Community Health, Computers, Thai, and English. In addition, students learn basic leadership skills, gender equality, community project management, basic economics, environmental studies, human right activism, traditional Karen dance, and a strong agricultural program. Currently, our school approximately has 79 students, who live on campus in dormitories separated by gender. Classes are from 8:00 am-3:00 pm. Furthermore, students study for one hour each morning and two hours each night in study hall. Also, students complete rotating chore duties, play sports, and work together on farming and building around the school.
